Designated Grantee
When donating via the Makua app as per our Terms of Use your Donation goes directly to Makua Partners which is a US-registered 501(c)(3) public charity. On a regular basis, Makua Partners approves your recommendation and disburses funds collected through Donations to recipient Nonprofits. All of your donation minus the payment processing fees goes to Makua Partners, who will then grant the donations, minus the platform fee surcharge and payment processing fee to the Designated Grantee.
All Designated Grantees are pre-validated by Makua Partners to confirm they meet Makua Partners’ applicable eligibility requirements to receive grants. So long as the identified Designated Grantee remains eligible to receive grants from Makua Partners, Makua Partners will distribute grants to the Designated Grantee out of the donations raised.
Disbursement
Makua Partners aggregate donations from the previous quarter on the 1st of each quarter and distributes funds within 2 weeks.
The minimum for a disbursement is $10 USD. If we have less than the minimum for a nonprofit, Makua Partners will wait until other donations are made to meet the minimum disbursement amount before disbursing the funds.
Fees
Instead of deducting a fee from your donation, Makua adds on a small 4% on top of donations to cover the platform running costs. This means that the nonprofit of your choice gets 100% of your donation minus the 3rd party processing fees.
We work with Stripe to process your donations ensuring that your payment information is safe. Doing so, Stripe charges the following fees; Visa / Mastercard 2.2% + $0.30, Amex 3.5%. Although donating to a nonprofit’s website directly incurs the same fees, because we work with a larger volume of donors, we are working to get these fees reduced.
In some instances we may work with Network for Good to disburse donations, when doing so, they charge a disbursement fee of 2.25%
